Clarification of witnesses

Bericht door kate12 »

Hello,

Once again I need some of your valuable assistance & guidance.

I am manually entering my ancestral family tree at Geneanet. A majority
of the documents I am working with are from Alsace, Bas-Rhin.

When entering a person's death record information (or other record), there
is an option to add witnesses. Are these witnesses the people who went to the
Mayors' Office with the person declaring the death of someone? One person
may have been a cousin of the newly deceased person and another witness
may just have been a family friend. Is it these two people who should be entered
under the option to add witnesses to the individual person's record in the family tree?

Sorry so lengthy!

Yes, witnesses are persons (family, friends) who were declaring a birth or a death, persons who were present at a marriage, etc.
Best wishes,
